You may have never heard of Charles Le Brun (24 February 1619 – 22 February 1690), who was a famous French painter and art theorist. And yet some of his work deserve much wider recognition.
Le Brun was declared “the greatest French artist of all time” by Louis XIV.
As much as the painting goes, Le Brun was also into physiognomics, and he painted some sketches of how a human would’ve looked like if they descended from various animals.
